The treasured piece of memorabilia was given to the Super-fan by Michael Jackson at the Pontiac Silverdome, a suburb of Detroit, Michigan and is still held by that Super-fan 25 years later.
The story was published in the local Macomb Daily newspaper back on August 22, 1984. The Super-fan is also seen in the original Billie Jean 1984 Victory Tour video, which was compiled from many concert dates throughout the Victory Tour.

In the summer of 1984, Michael Jackson of The Jackson 5 toured with the group for a final set of concerts called, “Pepsi Presents, The Jackson’s Victory Tour.” In August Michael and his brothers performed in Pontiac Michigan, a suburb of Detroit Motown, at the Pontiac Silverdome. Prior to the concert a Super-fan, as we shall call him and friends purchased several tickets. Because these were advanced tickets, seating had not been allocated.
At the time, Michael Jackson was, by far, one of the most popular entertainers, as the Victory Tour marked Michael’s final curtain call with his brothers, The Jacksons, and the beginning of the King of Pop’s solo career.
On August 19, during the Pontiac Silverdome concert, Michael Jackson and his brothers performed Michael’s hit single Billie Jean. While performing this number Michael wiggled out of his signature Black Sequin jacket, spun around, and threw it directly to our Super-fan. The Super-fan caught the jacket, but was immediately rushed by several other concert-goers. During the scramble, our Super-fan noticed a woman trampled over, and when he went to assist her, the jacket was ripped from his hands.
Michael Jackson, still on stage at the time singing his hit single Billie Jean, noticed the incident and informed his security to retrieve the jacket and return it to the Super-fan, who had caught it. The Super-fan and his group were told to wait until the entire arena was completely cleared out, and only our Super-fan was ushered backstage to receive Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean Black Sequin jacket, and was then told Michael Jackson wanted to make sure our Super-fan received his jacket.
